Michael Eisen Speaks on Publicly Funded Research

Dr. Michael Eisen, Professor of Genetics and Development in the Molecular & Cell Biology Department, and a longtime champion of open access, was recently featured in the New York Times about the White House push for journals to drop paywalls on publicly funded research. According to Eisen, government’s directive established a principle in that federally funded research must be free to the public. Past attempts to do so have been watered down by inaction, compromises and arguments from the publishing lobby.
