Daniel Fletcher, Professor of Bioengineering, has been elected to the National Academy of Medicine, one of the highest honors in health and medicine. Fletcher was recognized for pioneering mobile phone-based microscopy that enables low-cost disease diagnostics in developing countries and for advancing the understanding of biological self-assembly and mechanotransduction. His lab’s CellScope technology transforms smartphone cameras into high-quality microscopes, expanding access to tools for diagnosing infectious diseases, ear infections, and diabetic retinopathy.
