Karthik Shekhar joins Glaucoma Research Foundation in launching research initiatives for prevention of neurodegenerative diseases

Karthik Shekhar, Assistant Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, alongside consortium members selected by the Glaucoma Research Foundation launches the Neurodegeneration Initiative with a $2.4 million gift funding from the Melza M. and Frank Theodore Barr Foundation. The research initiatives aim to find similarities across multiple neurodegenerative diseases — such as glaucoma and Alzheimer’s disease — in order to eventually prevent and identify therapies for them. The team hopes to bring their different research areas together to come up with novel ideas and policies or findings.
