Karthik Shekhar, Assistant Professor of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering, is among the winners of the Scialog Award in Microbiome, Neurobiology, and Disease. Supported by multiple foundations, this initiative promotes interdisciplinary discussions and awards 19 grants of $50,000 each to 16 researchers from the US and Canada. The final conference in Tucson brought together experts to explore microbiome impact on therapy resistance and gut-brain communicationd. Karthik and his team will recieve funding to investigate glia activation in the fruit fly’s microbiome-gut-brain interaction using single-cell techniques.
