Karthik Shekhar receives the 2023 McKnight Scholar Award

The McKnight Endowment Fund for Neuroscience has granted the 2023 McKnight Scholar Award to ten neuroscientists, including Karthik Shekhar from UC Berkeley. Shekhar’s project focuses on understanding the evolution of neural diversity and patterning in the visual system. By studying the retina and primary visual cortex, he aims to uncover how different species have adapted to their visual needs and the genetic basis of neural network evolution. The McKnight Scholar Awards support early-career scientists in neuroscience, and this year’s program emphasizes diversity and inclusion. The McKnight Endowment Fund for Neuroscience, supported by The McKnight Foundation, aims to advance neuroscience research and find cures for brain disorders.
