Noah Whiteman, an evolutionary biologist and professor of Genetics, Genomics, Evolution, and Development in the Departments of Integrative Biology and Molecular and Cell Biology, recently published his new book titled “Most Delicious Poison: The story of nature’s toxins — from spices to vices.” The book explores the evolutionary interplay between plants, fungi, microbes, and the animals that consume them, leading to the development of various toxins. Whiteman delves into the ways in which humans have both utilized and abused these toxins, ranging from spices like black pepper to addictive substances like caffeine and drugs such as penicillin.
